Sunday - Birthday, Fathers Day and Mikes Grad

Well, we don't believe in doing things easy in our family. Every celebration seems to have multiple occasions attached to it. This Sunday it was my Birthday, Fathers Day and Mikes graduation from Blanche MacDonald School of Hair Design. I got a very nice hair cut as a present from Michael. A picture of Nikki and I, one of my boys and hubby with his Fathers Day dragon. It was a fantastic, sunny day, one of only maybe 3 or 4 this whole June. I received some great presents from my family and we had a barbeque dinner with a fantastic angel food cake.

Welcome Friends

At my quilt guild a few weeks ago we had a demo night. Next year our block of the month will be a crazy quilt taken from a calendar put out by the Piecemakers group. It will be challenging with lots of embroidery so some of the guild members demoed embroidery stitches. They gave everyone a little baggie with the pattern drawn on a piece of cloth, floss, and needle. It was a great demo. I finished mine at home. It was so relaxing to do. I learned how to embroidery from my Grandmother when I was young. I had done some embroidery over the years, but once I discovered quilting, all other crafts went out the window. Now I find I can combine embroidery and quilting. What fun. (actually I knew about it, I just didn't want to do it before lol). Next challenge is silk ribbon embroidery for the crazy quilt. And also challenging to find the silk ribbon. I will probably buy white and dye it myself. I will be posting how that went!

Birthday blues

Not really blue on my Birthday, it just sounded like a good title. My birthday was on Monday and I turned Fifty - (cough, cough). It was my first birthday in 23 years that I didn't have any of my children here to celebrate with me. But Arnie and I had a nice dinner. I didn't really feel like going out to a restaurant, I figure I cook just as good as some of them and better than others. I made shrimp cocktail, quiche Lorraine, and for dessert - strawberry short cake. It was yummy. Arnie gave me a dozen cream coloured roses and I bought a present for myself. It's easier that way. I got some nice books. Then we had some wine and I went to bed with indigestion. I wonder what that was from! It was a quiet, but lovely birthday.

Happy Anniversary

Today is my 25th Anniversary. Hubby is laying in bed snoring still and I am on the computor. Not much togetherness here lol. We will probably go out to dinner tonight and then either to a movie or else bring a movie home. We have a 52 inch screen TV so it's good for movies. The dinner will be something ethnic as we are fans of anything thats different. When I got married 25 years ago, I didn't expect that we would end up where we are. Didn't know we would have 3 children (the last of whom just left home a month and a half ago). I didn't know we would still be in our starter home. But I just couldn't ever get that money tree to grow in the back yard. I didn't know that I could be so mad at someone and still love him at the same time. It's not been a Farris wheel, more of a roller coaster, but it's been an exciting ride, and I wouldn't change it for anything. My goal for the next 25 years? Just to be as happy as I am today.
